Impact Analysis for all metadata types

👍

In this example we explore Salesforce metadata, but you can try it out with any other business application as well

When we think about impact analysis in Salesforce, we almost always talk about where a field is used.
The truth is, Custom Fields are just one of many metadata types in Salesforce that other metadata types can use.

In this example we'll find references to specific Email Templates.
It’s difficult to find where they are being used, as they can be used in Process Builders, Flows, Workflow Email Alerts, and Apex.
With Salto's all inclusive Content Search, you can simply type in the Email Template name to find all its references.

Watch our video guide:

Or read the step-by-step instructions:

Step #1

Let's login to app.salto.io (we recommend leaving this tab open so you will be able to come back upon the completion of each step).
Below the search box, click on Content:

Step #2

In the search box, type your Email Template name, in our example, it's 'MarketingProductInquiryResponse', that's a long name, too long, lucky for us, we can just type 'MarketingProd', and Content Search will do the rest:

Step #3

In the list above, you can see that the Email Template 'MarketingProductInquiryResponse' is being referenced 3 times.
We'll expand that list, and see that 3 elements are using it:

  1. Account Workflow Alert account alert
  2. Boat (Custom Object) Workflow Alert my email alert
  3. Custom Label label with template api name

Step #4

Need more context? No problem - click on the first element in the list, in our example, it's Account Workflow Alert account alert.
To the right of the list, a new view will open, showing you exactly where account alert is referencing the Email Template 'MarketingProductInquiryResponse':

That's only the tip of the iceberg, with Content Search, you can find anything else you can think of - use it to find hardcoded user IDs, email addresses, and more.
